Sorcerer

Sorcerer is a Human mystic class in Lineage 2 BoHPTS, available after the 2nd class transfer at level 40. It advances from Wizard. It advances to Archmage. The class learns 30 skills of its own between levels 40 and 74.

How to play Sorcerer

What the class is

The Sorcerer is the human nuker and the master of fire. Of the three attacking mages he is the balanced one: his spells do not hit as hard as the dark elf's nor fly as fast as the elf's, but he has the most health of the three and the richest set of area spells. He burns a single target from range, sets a whole pack on fire for a party, puts enemies to sleep and strips their buffs.

Key skills

Prominence: the main spell, a fireball you cast without pause. Surrender To Fire lowers the target's resistance to fire and goes first on anything that lives long.
Blazing Circle and Rain of Fire: area fire, a ring around you and a rain over a distant group. They are how a Sorcerer levels in a party.
Aura Flare: a fast, cheap spell that works only at arm's length. Against a player who reached you it is the strongest thing you have.
Sleep and Sleeping Cloud: sleep for one target and for a group. Slow and Curse Fear slow an enemy or send a monster running.
Cancellation: removes several buffs from an enemy at once. One successful cast can undo minutes of the other side's preparation.
Aura Flash: hits everyone around you and makes them lose their targets. Concentration keeps your casts from being interrupted by damage.
Seed of Fire and Inferno: plant two seeds of fire and release them as one devastating burst that keeps burning. With mages of other elements nearby the seeds combine into Aura Symphony and Elemental Assault.
From level 76 the Archmage adds Fire Vortex, a stronger fire spell that also lowers fire resistance, Arcane Chaos, which weakens the target against debuffs and buff removal, Volcano, an area storm you cast standing still, and Arcane Power, a toggle for more M. Atk. paid for with HP and MP.
High Five adds more fire, Count of Fire, Fire Vortex Buster and Meteor, the spells without an element Aura Blast and Aura Cannon, a short burst of power Enlightenment, and Arcane Shield, which turns most of the damage you take into MP for ten seconds.

How to level

Alone, choose slow monsters without ranged attacks and count your casts: Surrender To Fire, then Prominence until it falls; if it reaches you, Aura Flare finishes the job up close. Sleep takes care of a second monster, and a monster with strong resistance to fire is simply the wrong monster. Mana is the limit, so sit down early rather than fight on the last drops. In a party the Sorcerer shows what he was made for: a tank gathers a pack, someone sleeps or holds it, and Rain of Fire with Blazing Circle burn it down together with the other mages.

Equipment and dyes

Weapon: a magic weapon of your grade with the special ability for casting speed. Magic attack decides the damage, casting speed decides how often you deal it. See Special abilities (SA): soul crystals, stages and gemstones.
Armor: robe sets with casting speed and magic attack; from the middle grades also look at resistance to stun.
Dyes: WIT and INT at the cost of MEN for the damage, and CON at the cost of STR, which a mage does not need. The rules are in Dyes and symbols: kinds of dyes, how to apply them and where to get them.

In PvP and sieges

Distance and the first move win your fights. Put a fighter who runs at you to sleep with Sleep, lower fire resistance with Surrender To Fire and cast Prominence until he wakes up dead. Use Cancellation on enemies who came in full buffs, tanks and damage dealers first. When someone still reaches you, Aura Flash drops his target and Aura Flare punishes him at point-blank range. In mass fights your area spells and Sleeping Cloud on a gathered enemy group are worth more than any single kill.

Second-profession quests for the Sorcerer

To get the second profession, the Sorcerer needs three marks: Mark of Scholar, Mark of Trust and Mark of Magus.

All the second-profession quests have something in common, namely: To get the second profession every class must have three marks in the quest inventory, and a separate quest has to be done for each mark. The quests are taken at levels 35, 37 and 39. Some of the quests are shared by several classes, some are individual. To get the second profession the Sorcerer has to do at level 35 the same quest as all the mages and summoners, at 37 the same quest as all humans, and at 39 the same as all the other elemental mages.

General remarks on doing all three quests: It is better to do all the second-profession quests when you are already level 40 or higher, although you can also start running them by level: at 35, 37 and 39 respectively. But it may happen that during the first or the second quest the NPCs tell you that you are still too inexperienced and send you off to level up a little. In that case you have to gain the next level and come to the NPC for the task again.

The first quest for a mark: Trial of the Scholar.

After passing all three quests and getting the three marks, you have to go to the mages guild in Giran to Grand Magister Jurek, choose the top line of the dialogue, the one about asking for a change of profession, pick our profession, namely Sorcerer, and click the line "change profession to Sorcerer". Congratulations, you have got the second profession.

On reaching level 76 you can do the third-profession quest: Saga of the Archmage.
