A subclass is a second class on the same character, and it opens at level 75 after two quests in a row. This page explains what each quest asks for, how long it takes and where the usual delays are.

What is a subclass? When a character reaches level 75, it can go through a chain of quests, after which it gets the right to change its main class for another one: it is as if you swapped your character for a different one, with your appearance and nickname but with completely different stats and a set of buffs and debuffs matching the new class you have chosen. There can be three such subclasses in all, that is, the main class and three subclasses.
Subclasses are added, changed and removed at the grand masters of the corresponding guilds. A newly added subclass starts at level 40.
Attention: if you passed the third-profession quest on your subclass, then removed this subclass and later added the same subclass again, you will never see the third profession: the server database will record that you have already passed the third profession on this subclass, and the quest will not be given to you again. It is solved only by the server admins granting you the profession or resetting the profession quest, nothing else. The only difference between these two admin actions is that in the first case the third profession is granted on the subclass at once, and in the second you go through the quest again by hand. The point is that without the admins you cannot take this quest a second time yourself.
I know that some makers of private server builds have now started fixing this bug, but I think it should not have been done: after all, it is a flaw of NCsoft and not of those who upgraded C4 to Interlude.
The chain of quests for the subclass
| Quest | Level | Start NPC | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fate's Whisper | 75+ | Reorin | Town of Oren |
| Mimir's Elixir | 75+ | Ladd | Ivory Tower |
First of all we have to complete the quest Fate's Whisper. In the course of it we will have to visit the 14th floor of the Tower of Insolence, where the epic raid boss Baium lives, and for that the quest An Arrogant Search has to be done. We do the quest for the passage to the boss, stab him and go on with Fate's Whisper; when it is finished, we can start the quest proper, after which we get the right to change class.
This quest is called Mimir's Elixir and is taken from Magister Ladd on the 4th floor of the Ivory Tower (teleport from Oren). In the course of it you will have to brew various potions, for which you take the quest Supplier of Reagents. Having collected all the reagents needed, we brew Mimir's Elixir, hand in the quest and get the ability to add subclasses.
Having raised the first subclass to level 75, we can take the next one, which will also be of level 40, or go straight on to the chain of quests for the nobleman: Noblesse quest.
Where the time goes
- Raid bosses. Shilen's Messenger Cabrio, Death Lord Hallate, Kernon and Longhorn Golkonda respawn slowly and are contested. The quest counts if you open the chest that appears after the kill, so follow the raids of your clan or alliance.
- Baium. To stain the knife you must stand in front of Baium at the top of the Tower of Insolence, and the entry item comes from An Arrogant Search.
- Crystals and the weapon. 984 B-grade crystals and a top B-grade weapon are the price in adena; prepare them before the last talk with Reorin.
After the quests
With both quests done, a Grand Master of any guild can add a subclass. It starts at level 40 with its own skills and experience, and a character may keep up to three of them. Some classes cannot be taken as a subclass at all, Overlord and Warsmith among them, and Elves and Dark Elves cannot take each other's classes.
A subclass is a very good thing, and having gone through the whole chain of quests and leveled the subclass, you will feel much more confident. Imagine that you are quietly and peacefully spoiling on a farm. And then some big guy or lady comes along and starts throwing their weight about or demanding some recipe for free. Without a subclass we would have to put up with all this bullying, but as it is we quickly fly to Rune, switch to, say, the Spellhowler, buff up, come back and show the brazen lout his place in the food chain.
Kamael
The Kamael walk this road their own way. Their first quest is the same Fate's Whisper, but the second one is Seeds of Chaos instead of Mimir's Elixir, and the subclass is added by Kekropus in the main building of their village. A Kamael can take only Kamael classes as a subclass, and no other race can take a Kamael class. One class exists only as a subclass: Inspector opens to a Kamael who has raised two subclasses to level 75.
A levelled subclass pays the main class back: at levels 65, 70, 75 and 80 it earns certificates that buy passive skills and a Divine transformation. Every skill with its numbers: Subclass skills in High Five: certificates and what they give.
