S84 Armor Sets: S84-Grade 12

What I do not like the chronicles above Interlude for is that not all armor can be crafted. When I ran on Freya servers I kept thinking: well, the Koreans will come up with new chronicles and will surely add the craft of S84 armor above the low one. Fat chance. The High Five update came out, and you can still craft only the Vespers, and everything else comes only from epics. I felt terribly sorry for NCsoft, that they are such slowpokes. But what can you do: no means no, we will go on crafting Vespers, all the more because only by crafting can you collect a masterwork set.

About masterwork craft: at first any piece of a set could be crafted as a masterwork one, but then the masterwork craft of the upper part was removed in all sets, so in a set with an upper and a lower part a masterwork can be crafted only for the lower one.

Now about the S84 armor sets themselves. A clear division into gradations: low S84, mid S84 and top S84 sets. In each gradation there are the same heavy, magic and light sets. Just as with weapons, only the low S84 armor can be crafted; mid and top are obtained only by drop, and naturally there is no masterwork craft in mid and top.

  • Vesper heavy set, low heavy: STR +2, DEX -2, P.Atk +5.57%, P.Def +5.57%, Max HP +531, resistance to Sleep and Hold +70%. Vesper light set, low light: STR +1, CON -2, DEX +1, P.Atk, attack speed and MP recovery +5.57%, Max MP +347. Vesper robe set, low magic: INT +1, MEN -2, WIT +1, M.Atk +8.47%, casting speed +15%, MP recovery +5.57%, resistance to Stun +50%, the chance of being cancelled lowered by 30. A masterwork set can be collected for all three.
  • Vorpal Heavy set, mid heavy: STR -2, CON +2, P.Def +8.47%, P.Atk +5.57%, resistance to magic damage +2%, Max HP +541, Speed +7, Accuracy +4, resistance to Bleed, Hold and Sleep +50%, resistance to all elemental magic +5. Vorpal Light set, mid light: STR +1, DEX +2, CON -3, P.Atk +5.57%, P.Def +5.57%, attack speed +5%, run speed +3%, resistance to Stun +50%, +182 damage on a critical hit, Max MP +360, resistance to all elemental magic +5. Vorpal Magic set, mid magic: WIT +2, MEN -1, INT -1, M.Atk +8.7%, casting speed +15%, MP recovery +5%, run speed +7, Max MP +92, resistance to Stun +50%, resistance to all elemental magic +5. A cloak can be worn with all three; there is no masterwork, since there is no craft.
  • Elegia Heavy set, top heavy: STR +3, CON -2, P.Atk +6.59%, critical rate +127, resistance to Bleed, Hold and Sleep +50%, resistance to magic damage +2%, Max HP +550, resistance to all elemental magic +5, the Vampiric Rage effect. Elegia Light set, top light: STR +1, DEX +2, CON -2, P.Atk +6.59%, attack speed +6%, critical rate +171, resistance to Paralysis +50%, run speed +3%, resistance to all elemental magic +5. A cloak can be worn with all three; there is no masterwork, since there is no craft.

S80 Armor Sets: S80-Grade 3

This is the last armor grade that can be crafted whole, that is, both low and top S80 can be crafted, but here too the Koreans could not do without conventions. There is no drop or spoil of recipes for the Dynasty armor at all, only quests. In principle all Dynasty recipes are obtained on Hellbound; that is what this once top location was created for. Then the game went far ahead, but so as not to belittle Hellbound in higher chronicles, and so that people would still go there, the Dynasty recipes remained quest-only, and they drop from no mob. A folly in my view, but the Koreans know better. Still, running around Hellbound in high chronicles is not a very appetising pastime; it is easier to do some quest on the main territories.

And right away about masterwork craft, since not everybody knows: when masterwork craft was first introduced, you could craft any piece of a set and get a masterwork piece. Then players began to complain about a terrible injustice: if an armor set includes an upper and a lower part, that makes one piece more than when the set includes a full body. The Koreans did not think long and in the next update removed the masterwork craft of the upper part in all sets: now, in a set that has an upper and a lower part, a masterwork can be crafted only for the lower one, and the upper one is left out.

Now about the S80 armor sets themselves. A clear division into gradations: low S80 and top S80 sets. In each gradation there are the same heavy, magic and light sets. A masterwork set can be collected for all six.

  • Dynasty heavy set, the low heavy set. Set bonuses: CON -1, STR +1, P.Def +4.6%, Max HP +418, Resistance to Dark +6; a cloak can be worn.
  • Dynasty light set, the low light set. Set bonuses: CON -1, DEX +1, Accuracy +1.72, Evasion +1.72, Max HP +418, Resistance to Dark +6; a cloak can be worn.
  • Dynasty robe set, the low magic set. Set bonuses: INT -1, MEN +1, Casting Spd. +12%, Max MP +257, Resistance to Dark +6; a cloak can be worn.
  • Moirai Heavy set, the top heavy set. Set bonuses: STR +2, CON -2, P.Atk +4.26%, Atk. Spd. +4%, Resistance to Magic Damage +2%, Resistance to Stun +50%, Resistance to Fire/Water/Wind/Earth +3; a cloak can be worn.
  • Moirai Light set, the top light set. Set bonuses: DEX +2, CON -2, P.Atk +4.26%, Atk. Spd. +4%, Speed +3%, Resistance to Hold +50%, Resistance to Fire/Water/Wind/Earth +3; a cloak can be worn.
  • Moirai Magic set, the top magic set. Set bonuses: WIT +2, MEN -2, M.Atk +8.11%, Casting Spd. +15%, Resistance to Paralysis +50%, Resistance to Fire/Water/Wind/Earth +5; a cloak can be worn.

About the grade: players count the Dynasty sets as low S80 because they need level 80, but by the High Five client they are S grade, so on this page they stand in the S section; the Moirai sets are S80 in the client as well.

S Armor Sets: S-Grade 6

In the S-grade sets the Koreans give us no choice at all: one light set, one heavy and one magic. What all of them share in crafting: whole pieces can drop only from raid bosses, the key materials are only spoiled from ordinary mobs or dropped by RBs. The recipes are only 60% ones and are obtained only by quests. All the parts of the sets are unsealed only at the blacksmith of Mammon in the catacombs during the week of victory.

  • Draconic Leather Light Armor Set. Bonus: +1 DEX, +1 STR, -2 CON, +4% P.Atk, +4% attack speed, +289 MP, +5759 weight limit.
  • Imperial Crusader Heavy Armor Set. Bonus: +2 STR, -2 DEX, +8% P.Def, +445 HP, -70% chance of Sleep/Hold landing; with the shield, -80% chance of Poison/Bleed landing.
  • Major Arcana Robe Set. Bonus: +1 WIT, +1 INT, -2 MEN, +8% M.Atk, +7 movement speed, -50% chance of a cast being interrupted when the enemy hits, +5759 weight limit.

Which of the S sets to dress your chars in is up to you, there are many options: I have seen destroyers in IC, dwarf girls in the draconic, and even archers in IC. I have noticed that old-timers who played back in C4 dress their necros in the MA set and put an Imperial Staff in their hands, that is, they stake on the power of the nuke. At the olympiad people put on the MA set in order to buff up (lots of mana) and then change into their usual sets.

A Armor Sets: A-Grade 17

As in B grade, the armor sets are strictly structured too: there are four kinds of A-grade sets, two top A, Majestic and Nightmare, and two low A, Tallum and Dark Crystal. Inside each kind there are three sets, heavy, magic and light, but not everything in them gets crafted: even fewer kinds than in B grade, and within the sets people craft selectively, because a lot drops from mobs as whole pieces. So it all comes down not so much to crafting a set as to assembling it from various parts, which are not always crafted.

Let us sort out at once what need not be crafted because it drops very often. From Majestic the helmets drop often and there are always plenty on the market, though everybody loves to jack up their prices, so it is fifty-fifty: if cheap, it is simpler to buy. From Nightmare people craft mostly just the heavy body, the rest is dirt cheap on the market. From DC nobody ever crafts the light top and bottom or the heavy top and bottom: the first drop often in the catacombs, the second in the BS, where everyone farms moonshards; in fact most likely the first A-grade thing you knock out of mobs will be the DC light bottom. From Tallum the magic bottom and top and the light body are not crafted, they drop often enough too.

The general rule for all A sets: every crafted part (or one knocked out of mobs) comes sealed, so for the set to work (that is, to give its extra bonuses) all its parts have to be unsealed at the blacksmith of Mammon in the catacombs during the week of victory. Everything is unsealed for Ancient Adena.

Majestic

Majestic Heavy Set. This is my favourite set, with it any mobs crumble easily and briskly. Why not Tallum? Because the Majestic heavy set has plus 50% protection from stun, and since my spoiler girl hangs around places where mobs keep casting stun, that became the deciding factor. Bonus: +4% P.Atk, +3 accuracy, +2 STR, -2 CON, +50% protection from stun. We do not need a shield at all, we run with duals.

Majestic Magic Set. The magic set for all the rechargers who are used only as buffers and mana batteries. A problem can arise only when crafting the body itself, since the recipe is rather hard to get. Bonus: +15% casting speed, +1 MEN, -1 WIT, +240 MP, +8% MP regeneration, -50% chance of being stunned.

Majestic Light Set. The bonus to P.Atk only with a bow in hand hints, as it were, that this set is for all kinds of archers, which is basically what they do, that is, they dress in MJ light everywhere, and so do some daggers for whom mana for skills is critical while their passives work only with light sets. Bonus: +8% P.Atk with a bow in hand, +1 DEX, -1 CON, maximum MP +240, -50% chance of being stunned, +5759 weight limit.

Nightmare

Nightmare Heavy Set. A heavy set for tanks, the cheapest to assemble of all the heavy sets, only the body itself is expensive. A set dwarves have for some reason taken a liking to, though in it I feel like in a tin can: a clumsy dwarf lump stuffed with HP. Bonus: +4% P.Atk, +2 CON, -2 DEX, -70% chance of catching sleep and root. With the shield, +5% of the damage received is reflected back at the enemy.

Nightmare Magic Set. The cheapest of the magic sets; I dress all my cats, horses and other window pets in it. But, as always, there are exceptions: some necros who stake on the power of the nuke assemble exactly this one, though that is rather debatable, since both the -2 WIT and the lack of a bonus to casting speed can play a nasty trick, and you get killed before you can fire a couple of nukes at the enemy. Bonus: +8% M.Atk, +2 INT, -2 WIT, +4% MP recovery, -70% chance of sleep and root landing.

Nightmare Light Set. Although this set is good for nothing at all, the treasure-hunter types run about in it everywhere, not for any bonuses but just to run in an A set until they level to 76 and get hold of the draconic set. The cheapest A-grade set altogether. Bonus: +4% M.Def, +1 DEX, -1 CON, +3% vampiric, -70% chance of catching sleep and root.

Tallum

Tallum Heavy Set. The best set for destroyers thanks to +8% attack speed, which affects both the frequency of hits and the cooldown of the limits. Destroyers often prefer this set to the S-grade draconic. Bonus: attack speed +8%, +2 STR, -2 CON, -80% chance of poison and bleed landing on you, +5759 weight limit. There is no shield here, naturally.

Tallum Magic Set. The second most popular of the A-grade magic sets, cheaper to assemble because the top and bottom drop from mobs everywhere, and the Tallum gloves cost a little less than the DC ones. It is worn mostly when you know for sure that mages will be against you: thanks to the bonus to M.Def the set can pull through both a PvP and a fight at the olympiad. Bonus: +15% casting speed, +8% M.Def, +2 WIT, -2 INT, -80% chance of bleed and poison landing.

Tallum Light Set. The only decent plus of this set is +2 MEN, which affects how mental attacks land, but since the rest of the bonuses are about nothing, nobody assembles it, though I think some use could be found for it against strictly certain classes. Bonus: +2 MEN, -2 WIT, +8% MP regeneration, maximum MP +222, -80% chance of catching bleed and poison.

Dark Crystal

Dark Crystal Heavy Set. Hardly anyone runs in DC heavy: there seems to be a bonus to heal and plus 2 CON, but because of the scarce DC gloves everybody tries either to sell the gloves themselves or to assemble the more sought-after magic set with them. Bonus: +4% to heal, -2 STR, +2 CON, -50% chance of paralysis landing. With the shield, +18% shield defense.

Dark Crystal Magic Set. The most popular A-grade magic set, with which only Tallum can compete, and even then only in some cases. Bonus: +15% casting speed, +8% P.Def, +7 speed, +2 WIT, -2 MEN, -50% chance of paralysis landing, slightly lowers the chance of being cancelled (how slightly, NCsoft knows but will not tell us).

Dark Crystal Light Set. A light A-grade set for the dagger folk; rarely does anyone use it, for the same reason, the costly DC gloves, but I still set one pair aside for my TH girl. Bonus: +4% attack speed, +4% to the attack itself, +1 STR, -1 CON, -50% chance of catching paralysis.

B Armor Sets: B-Grade 12

Starting with B grade the armor sets are strictly structured: there are four kinds of B-grade sets, two top B, Blue Wolf and Doom, and two low B, Avadon and Zubei. Inside each kind there are three sets, heavy, magic and light, but not everything gets crafted: in BW all the sets are crafted, in Doom mostly the heavy and the magic one, in Avadon only the magic one because it is relatively simple and cheap and gives casting speed; Zubei I have never crafted at all, though I have often seen the Zubei magic set on sale. In short, it is up to you what to craft and what not, look at the situation on your server.

The general rule for all B sets: all crafted gloves and boots come out universal, and for them to work in a set they have to be unsealed. They are unsealed for free in any smithy in the towns; you can also re-unseal them for another set, also for free: just go to a blacksmith, first seal the item, then unseal it anew for your set.

Blue Wolf

  • Blue Wolf Heavy Set. I strictly recommend it to all DDs, no alternatives. Bonus: +3 STR, -2 DEX, -1 CON, +7 movement speed, +5.24% HP regeneration. The most expensive and material-hungry heavy set, but it is worth it.
  • Blue Wolf Magic Set. A magic set for rechargers; the casting speed is supported by the WIT in the set bonus. Bonus: +3 WIT, -2 INT, -1 MEN, +206 MP, +5.24% MP regeneration. The set is rather expensive because the 100% recipe of the tunic is hard to get.
  • Blue Wolf Light Set. All archers and daggers prefer the BW light set, only why it has casting speed and plus and minus to the magic stats I have no idea. Bonus: +3 MEN, -2 INT, -1 WIT, +5.24% P.Def, +15% casting speed. No comment at all; maybe some buffer girl should try walking around in it.

Doom

  • Doom Heavy Set. A heavy set for tanks, pluses to HP. Bonus: +3 CON, -3 STR, longer breath under water, +320 HP; with the shield, +24% chance to block. It is not seen on sale very often: either the tanks have died out or the body and helmet are hard to craft.
  • Doom Magic Set. A magic set for, probably, necros: the casting speed is cut, but the nukes are cranked up as high as they go. Bonus: +2 INT, +1 MEN, -3 WIT, longer breath under water, +7 movement speed, +5.24% MP regeneration. A general question about all the Doom sets: where exactly are people planning to swim in them?
  • Doom Light Set. This set I would recommend to daggers or archers, but I see it on sale very rarely. Bonus: +3 DEX, -2 CON, -1 STR, longer breath under water, +2.7% P.Atk, +2.5% MP regeneration, +20% resistance to poison. Evasion is raised quite well, and the MP regen is a knife's dream ).

Avadon

  • Avadon Heavy Set. A budget version of a heavy set for tanks, pluses to HP. Bonus: +294 HP; with the shield, +24% chance to block. The top and bottom I knock out in the Frozen Labyrinth all the time, the rest I craft.
  • Avadon Magic Set. The most popular B-grade magic set. Bonus: +5.25% P.Def, +15% casting speed. Easy to craft, easy to sell, needed by everyone, both mages and buffers.
  • Avadon Light Set. Apart from giving this set to a dwarf girl who does manor and always runs overloaded, I could think of nothing else. Bonus: +5795 weight limit, +5.25% M.Def. Though now that I think of it, a BD girl could be dressed in it too, she is forever stuck on the weight of her shots.

Zubei

  • Zubei Heavy Set. The most budget version of a heavy set for tanks, pluses to HP. Bonus: +5% P.Def, +294 HP. Here not even the shield takes part in the set.
  • Zubei Magic Set. A budget version of a magic set for nukers. Bonus: +10% M.Atk, -5% MP regeneration. With this set everything is clear: no casting speed at all, but a bonus to magic attack instead.
  • Zubei Light Set. A budget version of a light set. Bonus: +4 evasion. You will not get far on evasion alone, but if there is nothing else at hand...

C Armor Sets: C-Grade 9

C-grade sets are already crafted in full swing, but selectively too, since not all C sets are popular.

  • Demon Set. Some necromancers prefer this set for its high bonus to INT. Bonus: maximum HP -270, INT +4, WIT -1. The boots are not part of the set, but they can be crafted and sold, necros buy them. The top and bottom are sold in the luxor (for those who do not know: the Luxury Shop is a shop in Giran where you can buy some low-C gear and weapons for C and D crystals).
  • Karmian Set. The only magic C set that gives casting speed; many, especially on low rates, prefer to dress their buffers in this cheap set. Bonus: P.Def +5.26%, casting speed +15%. The boots are not part of this set either, but buffer girls look not at all cool in the ginger shop ones, so all decent players try to buy the boots too: we definitely craft them. The top and bottom are sold in the luxor.
  • Divine Set. A mage set for rechargers: a bonus to mana and to WIT. All the pieces of this set are crafted. Bonus: P.Def +5.26%, maximum MP +171, INT -1, WIT +1. The boots are not merely absent from the Divine set, they do not exist in Interlude at all; they still existed in C4, though, and if your server is old enough and was not wiped on the move to new chronicles, there is a chance to buy them or trade for them.
  • Plate Leather Set. The best light set: the STR +4 is simply delightful, hawkeyes pay crazy money for it, and there are often people who want to enchant it to +6. Bonus: STR +4, CON -1. The gloves are not part of the set, but you can trade in them. The set is crafted in full.
  • Theca Leather Set. A cheaper version of a light set, preferred by daggers of all stripes. Bonus: P.Def +5.26%. The gloves are not part of the set either, but some people do not know that, and other gloves look much worse anyway, so we craft them. The top and bottom are sold in the luxor.
  • Drake Leather Set. The top C light set, but the bonuses do not please, so it is an acquired taste; now and then a gourmet turns up. Bonus: M.Def +5.26%. The gloves are not set ones. The set is crafted in full.
  • Composite Set. A budget version of a C heavy set: the body is sold in the luxor, the non-set boots there too, the helmet is crafted. Bonus: weight limit +5795; with the shield, M.Def +5.26%. Many strive to assemble the "compote" without suspecting that the bonus goes only to the weight limit. I usually put it on my BD girl, so that she can at least load a bit more shots.
  • Full Plate Set. The top C heavy set; all my dwarf girls flaunt FP sets up to level 52. A must-have, so to speak. Bonus: maximum HP +270; with the shield, shield defense +5.26%. Only the helmet is a set piece, but the top FP boots and gloves get torn out of your hands. We craft them.

The rest of the C-grade gear either is not part of any set and gives no bonuses or is simply unpopular. The only other thing in demand is all the helmets, since none of them is sold in the luxor and mages buy them willingly. And there are sets that are not sets as such, that is, they give no bonuses, but are rather pretty: Rind Leather (light), Robe of Seal (magic) and Dwarven Chain (heavy).

D Armor Sets: D-Grade 9

The D-grade sets are, in principle, of no use to anybody: for fighters it is enough to buy the brigandine top and bottom in a shop and fill up the kit with any odds and ends, and mages prefer to run until 40 in the NG devotion set altogether, for its casting speed. But there will always be those who want to assemble that same brigandine, including the non-set gloves and boots. Sometimes it reaches absurdity: I ask an academy member why on earth he fusses with clan armor, just run as you are. And the answer I get: you understand nothing about the game.

  • Brigandine Set (heavy). The most widespread D-grade set. Maybe because nobody knows about the others? Bonus: P.Def +5%, HP +153; with the shield, HP +20. The top and bottom are bought in a shop, the boots and gloves are not part of the set.
  • Reinforced Leather Set (light). Interesting in that its gloves and boots are not crafted but come only from mobs. Bonus: MP +80. Manticore Set (light). Bonus: MP +92. For both, the top and bottom are bought in a shop and the gloves are not part of the set.
  • Knowledge Set (magic). There are no recipes, keys or crafting, the drop is only from mobs. Bonus: M.Atk +10%, MP regeneration -5%. By its bonuses it already looks something like a set for mages; the top and bottom are sold in a shop.
  • Elven Mithril Set (magic). The best-known D set for mages: all the crafter dwarf girls run around Giran in it (that little yellow dress) to raise their MP for crafting. Bonus: speed +7, INT -1, WIT +1. The boots are not part of the set, the top and bottom are sold in a shop.
  • Clan Oath sets: heavy (P.Def +5%, HP +85), light (P.Def +5%, evasion +3) and magic (P.Def +5%, casting speed +5%). Clan armor sets, which for some reason everybody calls the blue D-grade sets although they are not blue at all. They can be worn only by academy members, are sold nowhere and can be obtained only by a quest. After the second class change and leaving the academy they can no longer be put on.

And now about the armor kits that are not sets but are of some interest to us as crafters (all their parts are top D): Plate Armor, the top D heavy kit, all of whose pieces are crafted; Sage, the magic D-grade kit; and Salamander Skin, the light D-grade kit.
