How the oldest event in the game works: which words are assembled from the letters and what is given for them, by what rules the letters drop from monsters, and how to knock out exactly the letter you need.
Probably the oldest event in the game; by the way, I prefer to pronounce it "evént" rather than "ivént", but you can do it as you like. Unlike most events, this one suits even C4, because there is nothing from higher chronicles among the rewards, neither life stones nor Dino weapons. And all admins love to launch it on the 1st of September, as if the first of September were something good. But let's not talk about sad things.
First I will tell about the principles of this event and about the rewards, and then about how to knock the needed letters out of the mobs.
The point of the event is that various little letters will drop from mobs; we make words out of them and hand these words in to the event manager, and for each word we get some reward. Both the words and the list of rewards are fixed in advance. The letters are A, C, E, F, G, H, I, L, N, O, R, S, T, II.
Words and rewards
- The word LINEAGE II (II is not two letters I but the Roman numeral 2, it is on one cube). The reward (one of these, not all together):
Ring of Queen Ant (1),
Ring of Core (1),
Scroll: Enchant Weapon (Grade A) (1),
Scroll: Enchant Weapon (Grade B) (2),
Blessed Scroll of Resurrection (3),
Blessed Scroll of Escape (3), L2 Day buff scrolls (random) (3). - The word NCSOFT. The reward:
Ring of Queen Ant (1),
Ring of Core (1),
Scroll: Enchant Weapon (Grade B) (2),
Scroll: Enchant Weapon (Grade C) (3),
Blessed Scroll of Resurrection (2),
Blessed Scroll of Escape (2), L2 Day buff scrolls (random) (2), without Wind Walk. - The word CHRONICLE. The reward:
Ring of Queen Ant (1),
Ring of Core (1),
Scroll: Enchant Weapon (Grade C) (3),
Scroll: Enchant Weapon (Grade D) (4),
Blessed Scroll of Resurrection (1),
Blessed Scroll of Escape (1), L2 Day buff scrolls (random) (1), without Wind Walk and Haste.
As you see from the list, it is most profitable to assemble the word LINEAGE II: three buffs are given, and the enchant scrolls are more decent. There are 10 different buff scrolls in all: the attacking Might, Guidance, Death Whisper, Haste, Focus, the defensive Shield, Agility, Wind Walk, and the magic Acumen and Empower. The most valued is of course Empower; on big servers they can be sold quite well. For the first word you can get all the buffs, for the second all except Wind Walk, for the third all except Wind Walk and Haste.
Most of all, at the end of the event you will have Blessed Scrolls of Escape, and slightly fewer Blessed Scrolls of Resurrection. Having knocked out many letters, I hand in the first word until the needed letters run out, then the second word until the letters run out too; the third word I hand in only in the last minutes of the event, when there are no letters left for either the first or the second word.
The rarest letters are N and E; that is, in fact they are not rare, exactly as many of them drop from mobs as of the other letters, but since the letter N occurs in all three words and the letter E occurs twice in the first word, it is precisely these letters that are not enough for everybody, and some people trade in them. This happens provided that there are quite many people on the server and the event is set up correctly. But there were cases when on a small server the rarest were the last letters S, T, II; why that happened I will tell now.
By what rules the letters drop
If you think that during the event letters simply drop from mobs just like that, you are deeply mistaken. The letters drop strictly by certain rules, and knowing these rules you can time it so that exactly the letter you need drops from the next mob.
- First, the drop of letters is tied to the whole server, not to a particular mob or location.
- Second, the letters drop strictly in turn, beginning with the letter A and ending with the letter II.
- Third, there is a certain time cycle during which the letters drop.
I will explain all this by an example. Suppose our cycle is 5 minutes; the cycle begins, and the first to farm a mob, at Ketra, is player 1, who gets the letter A; the second to farm a mob is player 2 at Varka, who gets the letter C; the third is player 3 in the Monastery of Silence, who gets the letter E, and so on until all the letters have dropped or the cycle is over.
What happens if all the letters have already dropped and the cycle is not over yet? Nothing: the letters simply stop dropping until the end of this cycle and start dropping again with the beginning of a new one.
What happens if there are few people on the server and during a cycle the players do not manage to knock out all the letters? The cycle will end and a new one will begin, and everything starts over again from the letter A, while all the letters that did not get to drop in the previous cycle vanish into oblivion. I recently ran into this on one of the small servers, where at night I alone was doing the event: in a cycle I managed to knock out only the letters from A to G, and the cycle ended. It is on such servers that the very last letters become the rare ones, because there is simply no time to knock them out in a cycle. What to advise in such a situation? Ask the admins to lengthen the cycle.
On small servers the letters drop one of each kind per cycle, that is A-C-E-F and so on, whereas on big servers, where there are many people, the event is set up for an increased drop, that is, they can make them drop like this: A-A-A-C-C-C-E-E-E-F-F-F; the main thing here is not to overdo it, so that all the letters have time to drop within a cycle.
How to knock out the letter you need
Now about how I knock out the needed letters. Some prefer to lead big trains, hoping the needed letter will drop; I do it differently. I prepare a mage and choose a clearing where many mobs stand not far from each other, within a distance of 900, so that the nuke reaches without moving from the spot. And yes, the bulk of the mobs must fall from one nuke. A few control mobs may be a bit fatter, so that they fall from two nukes.
For example, we need the letter N. We start beating mobs unhurriedly, until some letter drops. Let it be the letter A. As soon as it has dropped, we hit a fat mob; say the letter F dropped from it, and then we already understand that from another fat mob we will most likely get something around the letter I. As soon as the letter I or L has dropped, we start bringing down all the one-nuke mobs with terrible force. Having got the sought letter N, we repeat everything from the beginning. That is how the drop of any letter can be timed.
And finally about the tastiest part, the epic. Yes, several times I got the Queen Ant ring from this event, and for some reason always from the word NCSOFT, and always at the very beginning of the event. Why, I do not know.
