Olympiad buff weapons: extra buffs from a special ability

How to get extra buffs at the Grand Olympiad from weapons with a special ability: how it works, which C, B and A-grade sticks give which buff, at what level and chance, and what to choose.

As you all know perfectly well, or at least those of you who take part in the Grand Olympiad, buffs in an Olympiad fight are strictly limited by the player's class: whatever a player has among their own buffs is what they buff. WW and Haste for fighter classes are cast by the Olympiad itself, and everything else comes only from self-buffs. The rules of the fights themselves are in the article Grand Olympiad and Hero status: rules, points and rewards.

But there are ways to get a few extra buffs at the Olympiad. With augmentation everything is clear, we will talk about it separately. Right now let's talk about such an effect as a buff from an ordinary weapon, but one with strictly defined SA (special ability) properties. The effect is this: if we take such a weapon in our hands and start casting some good spell on ourselves, there is a chance to get a buff from the weapon, and which one is determined precisely by the SA put into it.

Let's look at an example straight away. Walking past the Olympiad pillar, you often see a crowd of people holding one and the same weapon, namely SOES (Staff of Evil Spirits). This is exactly a typical buff weapon. If the SOES has the Magic Focus SA in it, then by casting a good spell on yourself you can get the Focus buff for 20 minutes, which will be no different from the same buff of a PP. The sad part is that there are very few buffs to be had from sticks; otherwise we dwarves would be really lucky: we would fill the inventory with a heap of sticks and give ourselves a full buff. Dreams, dreams.

Bandage, Noblesse and the pet

By the way, all dwarves used to buff themselves at the Olympiad with sticks by means of Bandage. Fast, cheap on mana, everyone happy. Then some smart guy dug up somewhere on the forums that a buff from a stick should land only when the spell we are trying to buff with is of a magic nature. And since Bandage is a skill of a physical nature, almost all free servers fixed it, and we dwarves were left with only one magic spell, the noblesse (Noblesse Blessing). And that, as you understand yourselves, is a completely different story, because it both takes longer to cast and has a longer reuse.

The next wonderful feature of buff sticks is that if, with this weapon in your hands, you put the noblesse on your pet, it too can receive the buff that is laid into the weapon's SA.

The chance of a buff landing from a stick is not 100% but far lower, so the buffing itself has all the charms of Korean random: for example, it will be sheer happiness if you manage to put 4 buffs on yourself and 4 buffs on the golem. At least I have never managed that.

Which weapon gives which buff

Now about the buff weapons themselves. Since an SA can be put in only starting from C grade, we get the following options: one and the same buff can be had from weapons of different grades, but the effect of the buff will differ. For example, from a C-grade weapon we get Blessed Body of level 4, and from a B-grade weapon already level 5, so there is a choice here: either quickly take a C stick with a worse buff from Mammon, or craft B grade, but with a better buff. Let's go through all the options.

C grade

B grade

A grade

Which buff stands behind the name of an SA: Bodily Blessing and Blessed Body cast Blessed Body, Magic Regeneration casts Regeneration, Mental Shield, Magic Mental Shield and Magic Shield cast Mental Shield, Magic Focus casts Focus. The levels and chances in the list match the SA descriptions in the Interlude client; for the two A-grade weapons the client gives only the chance.

What to choose

As you have probably understood yourselves by now, the best options are buff sticks starting from B grade. They have the highest buff levels. At the same time there is not much sense in using the rare and expensive top A weapons, because their buff levels are the same as those of B-grade weapons. Focus can be buffed only from B and A-grade weapons. Some weapons are not used as buff weapons at all, because nobody is going to put a buff SA into that same Valhalla (Sword of Valhalla) or into Spell Breaker when you can put in the SA for Acumen.

The cheapest way to supply yourself with buff sticks is two SOES plus one of Sprite's Staff and Hell Knife. In any case, for us crafters this opens up a quite decent way of extra income, selling SOES by the ton, which is of course exactly what we will do.
