A special ability is a bonus built into a weapon of C grade or higher with a soul crystal. This page explains which stage of crystal each grade needs, how many gemstones the blacksmith takes, where the ability is inserted and which weapons cannot have one.
How it works
Every weapon of C, B, A or S grade offers a choice of three abilities, one per colour of crystal: red, green or blue. You raise a crystal of that colour to the required stage with Enhance Your Weapon, bring it to a blacksmith together with gemstones of the weapon's grade, and the weapon is changed for good. Dual swords are the exception: they receive their one fixed ability automatically when enchanted to +4.
Crystal stage and gemstones by grade
- C grade: stage 5 and 97 × Gemstone C for the weakest weapons, stage 6 and 238, stage 7 and 306, stage 8 and 555 for the top ones.
- B grade: stage 9 and 222 × Gemstone B for low weapons, stage 10 and 339 for top ones.
- A grade: stage 11 for low weapons and stage 12 for middle and top ones, with about 140–157 × Gemstone A.
- S grade: stage 13 and 82 × Gemstone S.
Where the ability is inserted
C-grade and B-grade weapons are handled by the blacksmith in the smithy of any town. A-grade and S-grade weapons need the Blacksmith of Mammon, who appears in the catacombs and necropolises of the Seven Signs. The blacksmith names the exact stage and number of gemstones before he starts.
What cannot take an ability
- Weapons without a grade and D-grade weapons.
- Shadow weapons and hero weapons.
A crystal of stages 7–10 can also be bought for crystals at the luxury shop of Giran, which saves the first evenings of leveling. Everything above stage 10 is earned only on bosses.
