Castle siege: registration, rules and how a castle is taken

Nine castles change hands in two-hour battles between clans. This page explains who may register and when, what the attackers have to do, what the defenders rely on and what happens when the seal is engraved before the time runs out.

The castles and who may fight for them

The castles are Gludio Castle, Dion Castle, Giran Castle, Oren Castle, Aden Castle, Innadril Castle, Goddard Castle, Rune Castle and Schuttgart Castle. A clan needs level 4 to take part: see Clans and alliances: creation, levels and structure. The leader registers with the herald on the road to the castle no later than 24 hours before the siege and chooses a side. Defence is offered only when the castle already has an owner, and a clan cannot be registered for two castles at once.

When the siege starts

What the attackers do

The goal is to bring the clan leader to the holy artifact in the heart of the castle and keep him alive while he casts Seal of Ruler. The cast takes three minutes, the castle guards attack only the leader during it, and any interruption means starting over.

Siege machines of the dwarves

Only a dwarven craftsman summons them, one at a time. The Siege Golem breaks gates and walls: it costs 180 C-grade crystals and 40 × Gemstone C for every minute. The Wild Hog Cannon shoots over the walls into the courtyard: 70 B-grade crystals and 20 × Gemstone B a minute. A machine disappears when it is killed, when its master dies or when the gemstones run out.

What the defenders do

Their only task is to keep the enemy leader from finishing the cast. Archers and mages hold the walls and the towers beside the gate, melee fighters hold the narrow passage behind it, and a group of fast fighters goes out to burn the attackers' flags. Defenders who die rise in the rooms next to the artifact.

When the seal is engraved

The siege does not end. The clan that engraved the seal and its allies become the defenders, the clans that were registered for defence become attackers, and everyone else near the castle is sent to the town. The new owner has to hold the castle until the two hours are over.

The siege is as much about the clock as about the fight: a seal engraved in the last minutes cannot be answered, so both sides save a reserve for the end.
