Coins of Magic

Coins of Magic is a repeatable, party quest in Lineage 2 BoHPTS for characters of level 40–60. It starts with Sorint in Hunters Village.

Who would have thought that coin collecting could lead to such horrific chaos throughout the kingdom? Once you start, you cannot escape its grip. Do you think you can get the 1st Class Coin Collector Membership?

Coins of Magic walkthrough

Many say about the quest Coins of Magic that it is tedious, tangled and quite incomprehensible. But that is only at first sight: once you sort it out, everything can be done quickly. The quest consists of several stages, including several subquests. The stages are these: 1. Knocking out one coin, Kaldis Gold Dragon. 2. Knocking three kinds of coins out of mobs: Gold Wyvern, Silver Unicorn and Blood Medusa. 3. Changing the coins at NPC collectors for coins of higher ranks, raising the collector level to the first, getting C-grade things. 4. Getting the rank of a royal numismatist (Let's Become a Royal Member!). 5. Doing the quest Kail's Magic Coin for recipes of A-grade weapons.

  1. It is all simple enough. The coins knocked out of mobs are needed at all the stages, so we will knock out a lot of them (or put somebody to buy them up, as these coins can be sold, handed over and exchanged). A small note on builds: this quest looks different on different builds; for example, on the PTS from Advext all the things can be exchanged at the start NPC, while on the Java from Lucera2 these things are scattered over various NPCs, but that is nothing to be afraid of.

Joining the club

  1. Hunters Village. Find Warehouse Keeper Sorint in the warehouse and take the quest.

So, let us begin. The quest is taken right after getting the second profession, in Hunters Village, from the warehouse keeper Sorint, who naturally stands in the warehouse of Hunters Village. I do this quest for all my characters, all of them in general, even the buffers, as there are many mobs that drop the coins and they keep dropping from somebody.

  2. Find Guild President Bernard in the Warriors Guild.

We take the quest; Sorint says that to be accepted among the numismatists you have to find a certain rare coin, Kaldis Gold Dragon, but heaven knows where to find it, and a certain Bernard may help in the search, who stands in a room not far from the gatekeeper (if you look at the gatekeeper, it is the room on the left; you enter it by a small staircase next to the NPC Cronos).

  3. Anghel Waterfall. Hunt Harit Lizardman Shaman (lv. 54), Harit Lizardman Matriarch (lv. 55) until you have: Kaldis Gold Dragon.

Bernard hints that the coin can be knocked out of the mob Harit Lizardman Shaman of level 54 or of Harit Lizardman Matriarch of level 55, which are in the location Forest of Mirrors. We teleport there and from the teleport point run towards Anghel Waterfall, that is, down to the river and along the bank. The coin can be knocked out even with characters of level 40, only buff them well. The shaman is preferable, as it is x1 by HP. The coin drops either from the first or from the second mob.

  4. Hunters Village. Return to Guild President Bernard in the Warriors Guild.

  5. Return to Warehouse Keeper Sorint in the warehouse. Hand over: Kaldis Gold Dragon. You receive: Coin Collector Membership 3.

We hand the coin to Sorint and at once become numismatists of the 3rd level. Now the main pastime is to knock coins out of ordinary mobs.

Base coins from monsters

  1. Blood Medusa: Timak Orc Archer (lvl 41), Timak Orc Soldier (lvl 42) and Timak Orc Shaman (lvl 44) in Timak Outpost; Lakin (lvl 44) in Hunters Valley; Hatar Hanishee (lvl 49) in the War-Torn Plains; Tortured Undead (lvl 53) in the Cemetery; Grave Lich (lvl 57) and Doom Archer (lvl 62) in the Fields of Massacre; Wisdom of Splendor (lvl 62) and both Punishment of Splendor (lvl 64) in the Valley of Saints; Bandersnatch (lvl 69) around Goddard (coins dropping from this mob will get in the way of the quest for the way to Valakas).

  2. Silver Unicorn: Formor (lvl 45) and Formor Elder (lvl 46) around the Ivory Tower crater; Tarlk Bugbear High Warrior (lvl 49) between the Ivory Tower crater and the Outlaw Forest; Vanor Silenos Shaman (lvl 49) in the Plains of Glory; Oel Mahum (lvl 53), Oel Mahum Warrior (lvl 54) and Oel Mahum Witch Doctor (lvl 55) in the Outlaw Forest; Claws of Splendor (lvl 60) and Wailing of Splendor (lvl 67) in the Valley of Saints.

  3. Gold Wyvern: Timak Orc (lvl 40) in Timak Outpost; Shackle (lvl 45), Royal Cave Servant (lvl 51), Headless Knight (lvl 50) and Malruk Succubus Turen (lvl 56) in Dragon Valley; Doom Servant (lvl 60) in the Fields of Massacre; Doom Knight (lvl 65) in the Fields of Massacre and the Seal of Shilen; Buffalo (lvl 70) around Goddard (coins dropping from this mob will get in the way of the quest for the way to Valakas).

Exchange for better coins

  1. Only one character has to raise the level of membership in the collectors' guild, so that it changes coins at the NPCs and gets things; I usually hang this function on my second Spellhowler, with which I level characters at the middle levels and which will later farm the main quest for recipes of A-grade weapons. For the 2nd collector level you need character level 43, 20 Gold Wyvern, 20 Silver Unicorn and 20 Blood Medusa. The coins are changed at NPCs for these: 1 Gold Knight, 1 Blood Werewolf and 1 Silver Fairy at Magister Page, 1 Gold Drake and 1 Silver Golem at Warehouse Keeper Hagger, 1 Blood Drevanul at Researcher Lorain.

  2. Now about whom to change these coins with. There are very many NPCs with the exchange, but we do not need all of them. The first one we need is Page in the magic guild of Hunters Village (she is available at all the levels of collecting): from her we get Gold Knight = 10 Gold Wyvern, Silver Fairy = 10 Silver Unicorn, Blood Werewolf = 10 Blood Medusa. Next, Hagger in the warehouse of Oren: Gold Drake = 10 Gold Wyvern, Silver Golem = 10 Silver Unicorn. There remains 1 Blood Drevanul, for which we go to Lorain, who stands near the entrance to Cruma Tower: Blood Drevanul = 10 Blood Medusa.

  3. Return to Warehouse Keeper Sorint in the warehouse. Hand over: Gold Knight, Gold Drake, Blood Werewolf, Blood Drevanul, Silver Fairy, Silver Golem. You receive: Coin Collector Membership 2.

That is it, we have the first six coins and go to Sorint to raise the level to the second. Now not only new goods open to you, but also new collectors, who change coins only with numismatists of the second level and higher.

  4. Now we quickly rise to the first level. For the 1st collector level you need character level 46, 200 Gold Wyvern, 200 Silver Unicorn and 200 Blood Medusa; that is, to get level 1 in the guild of numismatists you will have to knock 220 coins of each denomination out of mobs. Ralford in the basement of the Ivory Tower: Gold Wyrm = 5 Gold Drake and 5 Gold Knight, Silver Dryad = 5 Silver Golem and 5 Silver Fairy, Silver Undine = 5 Silver Golem and 5 Silver Fairy. Stan at the southern entrance to Oren: Gold Giant = 5 Gold Drake and 5 Gold Knight, Blood Basilisk = 5 Blood Drevanul and 5 Blood Werewolf. There remains 1 Blood Succubus, which we get from Duning in the smithy of Hunters Village: Blood Succubus = 5 Blood Drevanul and 5 Blood Werewolf. I will also note that Duning can give the coin Manak's Gold Giant as well, for which Demon's gloves or Demon's boots can be got: Manak's Gold Giant = 10 Gold Drake and 10 Gold Knight.

  5. Talk to Warehouse Keeper Sorint again. Hand over: Gold Wyrm, Gold Giant, Blood Succubus, Blood Basilisk, Silver Undine, Silver Dryad. You receive: Coin Collector Membership 1.

Now we have the second set of coins too; we return to Sorint and raise the collector level to the first. Very little is left: to become a member of the royal society of numismatists, Let's Become a Royal Member!.

  6. And a couple of words about the things that can be got through the quest Coins of Magic. On the whole, nothing interesting, except for several things at the second collector level. For the 3rd level you can get C-grade jewelry. For the 2nd level you can get Demon's gloves and boots, and also the Full Plate helmet. For the 1st level you can get C-grade weapons, but not even top C.

Tips

  • The guessing game is cheaper than a plain exchange only if you are lucky: a win on the second try costs four coins instead of ten, a win on the fourth costs nine.
  • The coin drops only if the last blow is yours.
