Little Wing

Little Wing is a repeatable, solo quest in Lineage 2 BoHPTS for characters of level 35+. It starts with Cooper in Town of Giran.

Hatchlings are, quite honestly, ugly little creatures! But how else are you to get a strider and wyvern?

Little Wing walkthrough

The quest for the little dragon, the Hatchling: Little Wing. By itself the little dragon is of no use to anybody, but if you level it to 55, a strider can be made of it, so many people do it: some to run fast, some simply to trade in striders. I did this quest on two different server builds at the same time, the PTS one from Advext and the Java one from Lucera2, to see where the differences might be. As it turned out, the quest works almost the same, but levelling the little dragon differs a lot; we will talk about that below.

  1. Town of Giran. Find Pet Manager Cooper next to the luxury shop and take the quest.

The quest is taken from level 35 from Pet Manager Cooper, who stands by the luxury shop in Giran. You can start right at 35, all the quest mobs are of the fitting level. I always have a heap of cat summoners for watching raid bosses, so I do the quest with them and level at the same time. What else is handy about summoners: after the second profession they get a skill for healing the summon. It needs no target, which is very convenient: we keep the target on the mob, to nuke it in a critical situation, and heal the little dragon with the skill.

  2. Hunters Village. Find Elder Cronos by the bridge. You receive: Fairy Stone List.

Cooper sends you to Elder Cronos in Hunters Village; he stands not far from the gatekeeper: if you stand facing the gatekeeper, Cronos is on the left. He needs the quest item Fairy Stone or Deluxe Fairy Stone at your choice, and that is exactly what he asks you: which stone you will bring him, the ordinary or the improved one. Boldly choose the ordinary one: fewer items have to be farmed for it, and it is handier in general. The thing is that if you click Deluxe, later you get a little food for the little dragon and maybe the cheapest armor for it, but for that you must not aggro mobs when you go to the fairy, and right next to her stands one aggressive satyr that almost always attacks, and the Deluxe stone breaks, and then start it all over again. In short, definitely the ordinary one.

  3. Cruma Tower (teleport from Town of Dion). Hunt Toad Lord (lv. 32) until you have: Toad Lord Back Skin ×10.

After that Cronos sends us to farm items in the location Cruma Marshlands. It is better to teleport to Cruma Tower; we do not enter the tower, at the exit we turn right past the dwarf girl, and further on you will see a big frog: those are the ones to beat. Everybody who did the second profession quests by hand knows this location and these mobs perfectly well. The drop of the quest items differs between servers; I buffed, went to take the quest and then to beat the frogs: on Java I managed in 20 minutes, on PTS it all took 12.

  4. For the ordinary stone you have to get 10 items, for the deluxe one 20. Besides that you need 10 Coal, 10 Charcoal, 3 Silver Nugget and one Gemstone D. All the resources can be farmed right here, there is just enough for one craft; only for the Silver Nuggets you have to beat some spiders.

  5. Town of Dion. Find Maria in the grocery store. Hand over: Toad Lord Back Skin ×10. You receive: Fairy Stone.

We farm the quest items and the resources and return to Dion. In the grocery shop we buy 1 Gemstone D, and right here in the corner stands the NPC Maria. We talk to her, get our stone and return to Cronos in Hunters Village.

  6. Hunters Village. Return to Elder Cronos by the bridge.

  7. Find Guard Byron at the town gate.

Cronos sends you to the guard Byron, who stands right here, opposite the gatekeeper at the exit from the village, next to the big-nosed one. Byron orders you to find Fairy Mimyu in the location Enchanted Valley.

  8. The Enchanted Valley (teleport from Hunters Village). Talk to Fairy Mimyu. You receive: Juice of Monkshood.

We teleport to the northern entrance of the location, go down and run along the corridor to the exit onto a small glade on the right. That is where the NPC stands. There are three exits, she may stand at any of them, from time to time she teleports back and forth, but in any case she does not leave the glade. Right here stands the wicked satyr, and the other mobs are social to it, and if you came here at level 35, it will be hard if it attacks you. So it is better to run round it along the bank. The fairy praises us and tells about the dragons scattered all over the world. We have to talk to one of them (exactly one, there is no need to rush round all of them) and bring an egg of that dragon. Out of the egg the fairy will make us a little dragon.

  9. Timak Outpost. Talk to Drake Zwov. Hand over: Juice of Monkshood. You receive: Scale of Drake Zwov.

I never ran round all the dragons, I do not even know where they are; I only remember that back in 2007 I stumbled on one of them between Oren and Giran, when I was testing fishing and hiding from PKs. That is the one I run to. It is called Drake Zwov; you can get to it either from the Plains of the Lizardmen towards the Catacomb of the Apostate, or from the southern exit of Oren through Timak Outpost, the distance is about the same.

  10. Cruma Tower (teleport from Town of Dion). Hunt Marsh Spider (lv. 34) until you have: Egg of Drake Zwov ×20.

The dragon agrees to give us an egg, but only if you bring it 20 items knocked out of the mob Marsh Spider. Oops, and we have only just been running about under Cruma Tower and seen these little spiders. We quickly rush there and beat the mobs. Here the drop is more even: I got everything in 10 minutes on Java and in 8 on PTS.

  11. Timak Outpost. Return to Drake Zwov.

We return to the dragon and get Egg of Drake Zwov.

  12. The Enchanted Valley (teleport from Hunters Village). Return to Fairy Mimyu. Hand over: Egg of Drake Zwov.

We carry the egg to the fairy in the Enchanted Valley, hand it in and get a Dragonflute for calling the little dragon. Both times, on Java and on PTS, I was given Dragonflute of Wind; that is the little dragon the fastest strider comes from, which was just what I needed. Possibly the dragon you get depends on the dragon you turn to, possibly it is random. On PTS the system chat did not even say that I had received the flute, but if you check the inventory, it is there.

  13. With that the quest is over; we return to any pet manager and buy the top armor for the hatchling (4.5kk each), soulshots for pets and food for the little dragon (Food For Hatchling).

  14. At this stage the differences between Java and PTS already begin. First, the armor and the food have to be put into the little dragon's inventory, and the armor has to be put on it as well. For that you click the armor in its inventory, a light green edging appears round the armor icon, which means the armor is on. That is on Java. On PTS the armor already has the edging when moved into the pet's inventory, and on a click the colour changes only slightly, so you have to check by the stats whether the armor is on or not. Second, when the pet is unsummoned, on the Advext PTS the armor and the food return to your inventory, on the Lucera2 Java they stay in the inventory of the unsummoned pet. Third, if you pick up an HP or MP herb, on Advext it is shared between you and the little dragon, on Lucera2 nothing goes to the pet.

  15. You get the little dragon at level 35, and now it has to be levelled to 55 to do the strider quest. Here the problems begin. It is advisable to be out of a party while levelling, for the reasons described below.

  16. The Java build from Lucera2. It does not matter at all who hits and who finishes off: in any case the experience is split equally between you and the little dragon. So we take the little dragon under the arm and go with the same cat summoner to beat fatter mobs. I started in the Plains of the Lizardmen, on x2 mobs; when I understood that it makes no difference who does the beating, I moved to the Enchanted Valley from the lower level, where the mobs are x2 and x3. I nuked the mobs with Prophet and Bladedancer buffs; if I saw that a mob had just a bit of HP left, I sent the little dragon to finish it off, it goes a little faster that way. I quickly ran low on mana and had to drag a Shillien Elder there as well. In a couple of buffs I raised the little dragon to level 43, which is very fast even on x10.

  17. The PTS build from Advext. Alarm, an ambush. On PTS it turned out that the little dragon gets experience only when it finishes the mob off. If the last blow is yours, the pet gets nothing. And this build also has a flaw: if there is anybody else in the party, the pet never gets experience, and that is why you have to leave the party. I buffed the little dragon as a warrior and the cat summoner as a mage; the little dragon did the beating, I healed it all the time. Slow. Then I understood that I could help it a bit: I nuked the mob and the pet finished it off. The main thing here is to get the knack and pick mobs that do not fall from one nuke of yours. From time to time a mob got paralysed by my cubic, and the pet calmly finished it off without heals. Yes, cubics do not work on the little dragon, neither on Java nor on PTS. In half a buff on x3, on x2 mobs of level 40, I raised a level 35 pet by a mere 20% and calmed down for the time being. On PTS with Prophet and Shillien Elder buffs the little dragon does not heal itself with Vampiric Rage at all, so for faster levelling you will probably have to drag a Bladedancer after it too. And on PTS, though there is a penalty for a 20-level difference, it does not apply to the dragon: the pet was level 35, and I was on a cat subclass of level 63.

  18. Having levelled the little dragon to 55, we set off to do the strider quest: Little Wing's Big Adventure.
